Skillet Bacon Jam Review

I love bacon. I don't know how else to put it, but I think bacon makes everything taste better. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but I truly believe that the statement is 99.9% true.

With that said, it was only natural for me to squeal with excitement when I first learned about Skillet Bacon Jam. Yes, I said that correctly. Bacon Jam. It's such an extraordinary idea that even I was a little put off by it. I'm used to jam being sweet and mostly fruity, not sweet and mostly...bacon-y? Nonetheless, I was excited to try it.

When I received the product in the mail, I couldn't wait to pop open the jar and give it a taste. Of course, I would've looked a little ridiculous considering I was still at the mailbox in public. So I take the package upstairs and finally get a nice look at what was in my presence. Here is what I noticed:

1) The jar was much smaller than what was pictured, and quite frankly, looked nothing like the picture that was shown on their site. This was not clarified before the product was sent.
2) It didn't have a seal that most food jars have when you first buy it.
3) When opened, the jam did NOT give off a pleasant scent. This might be due to the fact that it is bacon jam, but the smell of bacon typically makes my mouth water. I was actually put off by this one.

At this point, I was already disappointed and weary of the fact that it looked very unprofessional. I checked the website out again to make sure there was nothing fishy going on. There were mixed reviews on the product which means there have been others who have tried out the product already. It is also USDA approved, which doesn't always say it's safe, but in this case, it's safe to try ( I guessed). So, I delved in and take the first taste test....

I. Was. Not. Impressed. The combination of bacon, onions, and whatever spices they used just didn't seem to meld together very well. I don't typically mind sweetness with bacon (chocolate covered bacon), but this combination just didn't do it for me. It was also almost like they didn't reduce the sugar down enough because it was gritty and I was literally chewing down the sugar granules along with the bacon. Not something I was expecting. At the end of this taste test, I have fully concluded that bacon just doesn't work as a jam....yet.

It was a great concept and it really did get me riled up for a while, but just because it didn't do it for me, doesn't mean it won't for you. I am very open minded and have opted to try out their other flavors. Hopefully there will be light at the end of this skeptical tunnel. If you're interested in giving it a try for yourself, you can visit their website here:  www.skilletbaconjam.com or you can contact them here: eat@skilletstreetfood.com.

There website is legitimate and their products look very appealing. I may have not been impressed by this particular product, but who's to say that their other items won't impress me?

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
